THE WAY TO HAPPINESS®
COURSE
"Since starting this course, I have a completely different
outlook on life, things you take for granted in everyday life, yet
fail to fully understand. I know fully understand why I am in prison,
and with the help and guidance of this book and The Way to Happiness
Course, I fully intend upon my release not to return to prison,
but to lead a happy life for my family and friends and myself. This
is all down to Criminon, and showing me the real concept of life.
For that I am extremely grateful. You have changed my life certainly
for the better. For that I thank you."
C.S., HMP Armley
"By doing this course I have gained and learned so much good
and positive things. I have realised a lot anyway, but by doing
this it helped much more and confirmed in my head that everything
that I am doing is for the better. A lot of bits in this Way to
Happiness Course were favourable for me. If I said which ones, I
would be here all day, but I'll mention one: Virtues. I really liked
and enjoyed this part because all the virtues that were listed I
thought was brilliant and I really liked writing about them. By
me doing this I have gained so much knowledge, which I hope I could
influence people with for the better."
J.H., HMP Bullingdon
"Since starting this course I have begun to see people in
a different light. I now separate people and their behaviour. I
can also see partly how some people may have come to behave the
way they do and so find it much easier to forgive them for their
crimes and thus can enjoy their company more. I have also learnt
that when in the past I have ignored a person because I did not
want to be involved with them, I was in a way being cruel when I
ought to have been actively helping them. This will not be the case
from now on. Also you have helped me to feel more like a human being
and I now feel more like helping others to feel the same way. Thank
you!"
J.C. M., HMP Whitemoor
"By completing the Way to Happiness course I have become a
better person. I learnt things that I never knew, but should have
known. It has helped me to understand why I came to prison. I have
never stopped and looked at what was going on in my life, but by
doing the course, I am more happy, my views have changed and I have
a better understanding of other people and what's happening around
me. Thank you very much Criminon UK. Thank you."
P.S., HMP Lancaster
"It was only since I came to prison that I have gained qualifications
in English and Maths, until I was informed that Criminon UK did
correspondence courses, which I applied for, this being the Way
to Happiness course. The course has opened my eyes to a lot of things,
the main thing is how to create your own happiness, and allow yourself
to think about other people's views. After reading the booklet and
guide you take a step back and see where in life you have made mistakes,
and turn your life around to become a better person. This has only
been achievable by hard work and, of course, help from yourself
and colleagues at Criminon UK, who have encouraged me to carry on
with the course when I have had a few personal problems. I would
like to thank everyone who never gave up on me. I now feel very
proud of myself for completing this course, which has given me a
chance to lead a good and happy life."
R.C., HMP Swaleside
"I have always believed that people are the result of their
circumstance and upbringing. It has been difficult for me to see
how people or the world can change. This course and its principles
has framed out those ideas and principles to make that change. Change
starts from within with self-respect, the way we love and care for
our children, parents and other people and it all culminates in
the 'Golden Rule'. Thank you."

UNDERSTANDING AND OVERCOMING ADDICTION COURSE
"I have taken part in many drug courses, and can honestly
say this one has given me a greater understanding of the causes
and effects drugs has on the user. It has also given me the tools
and confidence to apply this information in a positive way. One
of the biggest pluses I have been given from this course has nothing
to do with the course itself, it has been the fact the people I
have been dealing with, are all volunteers and have given me help
and advice. My faith in man has been slightly restored, and I have
been humbled by the experience. I don't know what drives such people,
but they have my utmost respect."
S.W.Reid, HMP Dovegate
"I have just finished the Understanding & Overcoming Addiction
Course. I would recommend anybody wishing to further their education
for the reasons behind why some people become addicted to any kind
of drug in the first place, the ripple effect to family and friends,
inner damage to mind and body! This course on completion will give
you a better insight and ability to guide yourself (or other people)
through withdrawal, cleansing body inside out, back on the road
to gaining self-respect. Thanks to Criminon UK this opportunity
is free to better yourself and others."
R.M., HMP Garth
"Wow, what a revelation. This course truly opened my eyes
in order to allow me to see my own addiction problems in a different
light. In particular the idea of being stuck into a cycle of repeating
old patterns as a result of association with old memories. Also
the on-going vitamins and minerals and nutrition can only aid me
to recover from the undoubted residue that drugs leave. A challenging
course but inspiring one."
G.M.
"The course has made me see that for the past 35 years where
I thought I'd been living, I'd only been existing for the past 10
years with taking drugs. This time I want to start living and enjoying
life and have things I can call my own. I had things of my own on
drugs but never kept hold of them, always had the attitude easy
come, easy go. I also noticed where I went wrong and what got me
back on drugs. My friends were on drugs and they were friends before
the drugs came on the scene around our end. I still classed them
as friends and hung around with them and thought I was strong enough
to handle this but the truth is the drugs have changed them all
and they are not the same people I used to know."
D.H., H.M.P. Wymott
"Having done a few drug courses during my time in prison it
was good to do a course that was more than just talk. The Understanding
and Overcoming Addiction Course covered things about addiction I
was unaware of. The course also gave practical solutions on overcoming
addiction, something not covered in other courses I've done. Having
done the course I now feel better equipped to deal with any drug
problems I may encounter."
P.W., HMP Ashwell
"This has been a great course, which tells me a lot about
drugs which I have not known before especially about addiction and
to tackle addiction. I am glad I took the course. It is an eye-opener."
W.O., HMP Coldingley
"Since doing the Criminon Understanding and Overcoming Addiction
Course it has brought change to my life where I can be open now
about the addiction I had before I came to prison. It has given
me the incentive to try and help other people like myself that have
had problems and if I can bring change to one person at last, then
that is a result in itself. Also there were things in the course
that I didn't know. So it was a learning process for me. I am now
looking forward to the next course I will be doing. Thank you for
your help and support."
A.S., HMP Risley
"I now feel after completing the Understanding & Overcoming
Addiction course how I fell in to taking both street drugs and other
drugs. I know now that I will never again take drugs. I feel this
way because I now know what drugs do to you and your body. Also
what effects drug taking has on others around you and how they lead
you down the road to destruction".
D.L., HMP Garth
"I am so glad to have finished the Understanding & Overcoming
Addiction course. I have learned a lot from this course. If it was
not for this course I would still be on anti-depressants, when in
fact it was a restimulation. I think that this course should be
run in all prisons. I really feel that I have achieved something
in tackling my offending behaviour by doing and completing this
course. Thanks Criminon, thanks."
P.S., HMP Lancaster
"This course has made me realise how important life is and
it's made me think of drugs in a whole new light. They suck people
in and destroy life. This course has shown me that there are ways
of being helped when addicted to drugs. Drugs are poisons that only
cause harm to the body! It's not worth it."

THE CONDITIONS IN LIFE
"I found this course very examining! It's extremely useful
when testing one's own skills or abilities. Many prisoners exaggerate
their own abilities while inside these institutions. Yet the Conditions
of Life course enables the most resolute person to help themselves
out of such situations. It helps prisoners grasp that it is their
duty to show willing and make progressions on their own. To take
responsibilities of their actions (to impute one's self). It's high
time these courses were "inaugurated" (Introduced) to
prisons/prisoners all over the UK (Continent). Such "self referred"
courses give good incentives to prisoners. It's a pity that our
justice system doesn't realise Criminon UK's potential."
T.S. HMP Littlehey
"I found the course extremely useful and enlightening. I could
relate to my past, present and where I want to be in the future.
I hadn't realised that these conditions existed and therefore unable
to cope with the conditions appropriately. Knowing the steps and
sequence, applying the formulas, will help me in the future. Past
mistakes and dealing with myself in various states has been rather
hit and miss resulting in disastrous events. Page 7 applies; "If
handled properly they bring about stability, expansion, influence
and well being". The future is bright!"
P.G. HMP Dovegate
"The Conditions in Life Course was an enjoyable course, the
reading contained invaluable information or ways in which one can
improve their current situation. It can provide you with good knowledge
to use in the future, as everyone encounters problems at some point
during life and this course provides a better way of resolving certain
conditions by guiding you with a variety of successful methods.
For me, the course enlightened me on new ways to respond to certain
situations, as I usually think too quickly when in a problem situation
that I end up not dealing with it the right way. But since applying
my new found methods, I find that I do a lot better than before
as I'm now conscious of what I've learnt and it helps nicely! Thank
you!"
P.S. Western Counselling Services
"By doing the Conditions in Life Course it has helped me to
understand a lot more about myself and life, I've got a lot out
of all the courses I've done with Criminon UK. I'd like to thank
my tutor who's helped me to get back on track with a few things
in my life. I'm a better person in myself now, things can only get
better from now on. When I first came to prison in 1996 I had NEVER
done any kind of courses in my life as my English and spelling was
so bad that I was ashamed of myself, but nine years, I've got better
and better. So if I can do it anyone can."

HANDLING SUPPRESSION
"I have really enjoyed the Handling Suppression Course because
it has taught me a lot about others and myself. This course has
given me a lot of insight into how an anti-social personality operates
and conducts himself and the effects he can have on me and others.
I have learned how to handle or disconnect from anti-social personalities
and it has helped me to be much more positive and happy in myself.
I now feel much more confident about my future and feel like this
knowledge will help me to reach my goals and not let people put
me down or dishearten me anymore. I feel good about myself in general
and feel very sorry for anti-social personalities. They will never
be happy or reach their goals or potential. However, I now know
how to cope if a suppressive person starts to affect me and bring
me down. Thank you Criminon."
R.J. H.M.P. Wayland
"Before starting this course I was falling victim to an antisocial
personality and he was really effecting my progression through life.
However, now (with the help of the course) I am able to identify
such a person. I will not be suppressed too easily in the future.
These new skills will be valuable to me and I feel able to help
others who are similarly effected by suppression."

THE LEARNING SKILLS COURSE
"As always Criminon Volunteers enable you to study with ease,
as the materials are self-explanatory, accessible and postage paid.
Encouragement is there and praise is given, although this is earned.
By completing the Learning Skills for Life Course I have been encouraged
to visit the Education Department to apply for education. My reading
has also improved as I enjoy it more by deciphering words in novels
and newspapers, which enables me to understand articles better."
M.C., H.M.P. Peterhead
"I've just completed the Learning Skills for Life Course and
I got a lot from doing this course. I've had so many stages in my
life where I gave up doing things because I found it hard to grasp
or complete. This course opened that barrier for me. When I get
confused or feel like giving up I now know exactly what to do thanks
to the Learning Skills for Life Course. I've already put the skills
learnt from this course into practice with other educational work
I do and every thing has been a great success. It's amazing how
supportive the Criminon Staff are."
C.E., H.M.P. Blundeston
"I feel that the Learning Skills for Life Course (and others)
have given me "so much more" confidence in general. Every
course I've participated in through Criminon UK has "without
doubt" made me a better person. Throughout my sentence the
Criminon UK team have given me the "care and consideration"
that's needed to make an ex-offender able to realise his "wrong
doings, mishaps" in life and having been in receipt of such
help and assistance I (and many others) have the chance of bettering
ourselves in every manner of speaking. Despite the "Prison
Services" and "Home Office" having different views
and opinions, it's a shame such organisations cannot see that Criminon
UK are required by many (thousands) of prisoners from all over the
world. I take my hat off to such a charity."
T.S., H.M.P. Wandsworth
"On this course I've learnt a great deal - how to clear words,
what happens when you don't understand a word, working at a higher
level etc. I now feel I have the tools to combat these hurdles and
will have a better understanding of things I didn't have before."
I.M., H.M.P. Birmingham
"I have completed the Learning Skills Course, which was a
valuable asset to my own correspondence courses that I am currently
studying. This course highlighted the areas of studying that I was
clearly failing. Studying successfully is a skill in itself, the
learning skills course taught me how to tackle all the problems
that I encounter when I am trying to study a particular subject.
It allowed me to break down each problem stage by stage, and identify
how the mistakes were made and the frustration that followed. Since
completing the Learning Skills course my assignments have got easier
and the marks higher and I am actually enjoying my studies even
from my prison cell."
S.N. H.M.P. Leyhill
"The Learning Skills for Life Course has taught me a valuable
tool in life - how to overcome hurdles I may come across in my studies.
I now know exactly how to make understood any word properly. This
is very useful to me, as I do a lot of reading. Also because I'm
very keen to study, it will help in the future for any courses I
intend to do. I would recommend this course to anyone thinking of
taking up any form of education."
D.E. HMP Coldingley
"After completing the Learning Skills Course, I have
now learnt to improve my learning ability skills to read without
skipping words and getting to know and understand the proper meaning
of the words, so I now feel that I will not be stuck again when
reading and writing etc.
I recommend this course to other inmates. I am grateful for the
Criminon UK."
B.C. HMP Garth
"By doing this course it has helped me understand how to deal
with barriers that may pop up in anything I study and help me to
confront those barriers head on in showing me the best way I can
deal with removing any potential barriers in future studies."
M. T. HMP Wakefield
"I have learnt to clarify every point of what is being asked.
To take more time in completing any given tasks. Also learnt several
points which can be implemented in my future studies which will
be of benefit."

PERSONAL INTEGRITY COURSE
"The Personal Integrity Course has opened my eyes more to
the fact that I have not been truthful with myself which means I've
not been truthful to my friends and loved ones and cannot hide my
attempts to justify things I have done in my lifetime. A sequence
of events can be put to a stop by realizing the motivator in the
sequence will only prompt another act which then rolls on. It has
been very helpful in realizing that I have been a prisoner in myself
not just in jail but I feel now I have the key to release me from
my 'jail'."
G.C., HMP Whatton
"Now I've completed the Personal Integrity Course I have been
able to identify the various areas of the courses with certain areas
of my life and how I used to be generally. Now I have been able
to connect the course with my old way of being I am now able to
and confident enough to change. Also I can see in others people
committing overts, withholds, justifications over the smallest things,
although I have nothing to do with those concerned it is interesting
watching other's behaviour."

PARENTING SKILLS COURSE
" What I have found out is clear to me. In near future my
kids will get fair treatment and understanding with me and their
mother. Before I don't know anything about children, how to control
them and live with them. But yet I got the experience of doing so,
by doing the Successful Parenting Skills Course. I learnt the do's
and don'ts of the children's daily life tackle, how their problems
will deal with and to be good father near future. So I will be happy
to let any man to do this course until he get out from cell. And
it need much time, with reading, understanding with the course materials.
So this is my little advice to every nice man. I happy to my success
be publish out."
H.H. HMP Whatton
One of the brilliant things about the course is that I have learnt
a lot on how to treat children both mine and others, that some few
things which we try to neglect might at a later stage hamper children's
upbringing. It has improved my personal understanding of kids and
I look forward to putting some of it into practice on release. It
has been wonderful going through your courses - The Way to Happiness
and Successful Parenting Skills Courses. Thanks for being there
for inmates like me. Hope others will give it a try as the early
stage of the course is always hard. Thanks."
S.O. HMP The Verne
"The Successful Parenting Skills Course gave me a much better
understanding of how to manage my children and understand how they
may feel. I am better equipped now to give them a successful upbringing
and make them feel good about themselves. I am sure that I will
become a good role model to them in the future as the course has
made me aware of how my actions influence their behaviour. The course
was pretty difficult to complete but very rewarding because I feel
now as if I can become a successful parent. Thank you to my tutor
and thank you Criminon."
M.N. HMP Durham
"I found the Parenting Skills Course very hard to complete.
As a parent I thought I knew a lot about bringing up a child, but
after I did the parenting course it showed I didn't know that much.
I've got a learned a lot from the course and have put it into practice
with good results. I've also given the booklet to my wife and she
has got a lot from it. So this course has learned me a lot and will
change the way I deal with things with my child."
M.R. HMP Maidstone
"I have learned quite a bit from this course. When I do have
kids of my own I will be able to put some of the skills I learnt
on the Parenting Skills Course to good work. I have a nephew and
2 nieces and feel I will be able to look after them better."
M.N. HMP Coldingley
"I found this course extremely useful, especially the section
on getting a child to recognise his contribution he has made for
an adult. I practised this skill on my visit and found it to work
every time. I am now looking forward to practising all the other
skills at a later date. Thank you Criminon."
