Criminon UK Sponsors Unlock

Criminon UK sponsored "Unlock", The National Association of Ex-Offenders', annual conference at the Criterion Theatre, Piccadilly in November 2002.

About 300 people attended the conference with a theme of "Overcoming the Obstacles". Bobby Cummines, Chief Executive of Unlock said, "On release from prison, many ex-offenders quickly encounter what are sometimes insurmountable obstacles in a bid to lead a crime-free life. Imprisonment may end, but the sentence continues. This Conference looked at these obstacles and new ways in which they may be overcome, and also challenged us all to question the part each of us plays in creating a society which is sometimes uncaring and unforgiving."

The UK has the highest incarceration rate in Western Europe and the numbers grow weekly.

Speakers included Sir David Ramsbotham, GCB,CBE, Patron of Unlock, who spoke about his recent experience at a prison conference in Warsaw, Poland.

Also speaking were Ken Sutton, Head of Resettlement and Clive Pekova, Head of the Custody to Work Unit both from Prison Service Headquarters.
