The Criminon Learning Skills Course

Course Validation
OCN South East Region

Recently Criminon UK became members of the Hampshire, Isle of Wight and Sussex branch of the OCN (Open College Network ). Validation was given by the OCN to the Criminon Learning Skills Course.

This is a Level 1 course worth 2 credits to the student and it gives him the tools of how to study so that he can really use and apply what he has learnt. The student discovers that he can learn anything he wants to learn because he or she will have the tools to recognise the barriers and, even more importantly, know exactly how to handle it and successfully return to study.

The course has 10 hours of guided learning and 10 hours of self-study. The self-study part is applied to whatever course of study the student is doing.

Here are some recent success stories:

"The Learning Skills for Life Course has taught me a valuable tool in life - how to overcome hurdles I may come across in my studies. I now know exactly how to make understood any word properly. This is very useful to me, as I do a lot of reading. Also because I'm very keen to study, it will help in the future for any courses I intend to do. I would recommend this course to anyone thinking of taking up any form of education."

"I have completed the Learning Skills Course, which was a valuable asset to my own correspondence courses that I am currently studying. This course highlighted the areas of studying that I was clearly failing. Studying successfully is a skill in itself, the learning skills course taught me how to tackle all the problems that I encounter when I am trying to study a particular subject. It allowed me to break down each problem stage by stage, and identify how the mistakes were made and the frustration that followed. Since completing the Learning Skills course my assignments have got easier and the marks higher and I am actually enjoying my studies even from my prison cell."
